The 2nd half of part 5 of the discourse deals with a few things about the human body. The book explains how blood flows throughout the body. It explains that the reason one side of the heart chambers are smaller because there is no oxygen in them, and are therefore thinner. The book explains how man vs beasts are different. He goes into detail that even though beasts may have some of the same organs we have, they use them differently enough to seperate us from them. He ends part 5 of the discourse mentioning that only a God could have created us seperate from beasts, so he reasons that there is indeed a God.

speaking about human vs beast, i do believe it was god's way of seperating us from them. when i read it i agreed with descartes explanation on how we do have similiar organs but we are different in that humans have reason while beast do not. in fact, i focused on this particular explanation because some would argue that beast are more intelligent than human, but that's not true because like descartes says, they may be better at some task but lack in other areas like reason. man is the only machine with reason and are intelligent because of it. descartes made his point on saying that man is the greatest machine created and therefore god does exist. with that said, i agree with descartes 100% on the subject.
I dont agree on what Francinia says about beasts being more intelligent than humans. However, what I would say is that beasts may have some sort of the same mind capability, however, I wouldnt agree with the fact that what Descartes says about beasts, however, I do agree with what Francinia says about God existing, and man being the greatest machine ever existed.
andrew, i think you misinterpreted what i said. i never said that beasts are more intelligent than man. in fact i said that they may have similar organs as man and may be better than man on some levels, but they lack others, which is why i agree with descartes when he says that beast are not intelligent.
i agree with francinia with the fact that she agrees with descartes. because humans are more intelligent and lack intelligence in some areas that a beast wouldnt lack. and i also agree that man is the greatest machine created.
I think god did create us differently from beast for a purpose. We may have similar organs but we cant be compared to each other. I dont think there can be a way that our reasoning be given to a beast. They dont have the ability to act upon their feelings.
