Mediation 1 response

"...I see so plainly that there are no definitive signs by which to distinquish being awake from being asleep"

Descartes tries to explain that when we dream, we take everyday objects that we see from our very eyes, and incorperat them in our dreams. He says that alone makes it very difficult when we sleep to tell if we are indeed dreaming or not. Its obvious that dreams arn't real, but when in the state of slumber, its taken for granted that it is indeed being acted out in real life.

why is it that at times we cant defer from being awake to being asleep? like you said, dreams arent real and are based on everyday objects. but why do they seem so real? descartes says that we know we are sleeping for the fact that when we are awake we are able to distinguish things, something we cant do when we are asleep. we cant touch our hands and actually feel them when we are asleep. thats how we can tell the difference between being asleep from being awake.

if you say that dreams do not exist what about situations of dejavu when you have dreamed a scene in your head, and then your seing the vision once again in your life. I would have to disagree that dreams are not real, because dreams in my opinion are visions of what we want to happen in our lives whether its daydreams, or the ones we see in our sleep
